Just a few hours flight from Ireland and the UK and only an hour on the ferry from southern Spain, Morocco is a taste of Africa right on our doorstep. An EU Open Skies Agreement was signed on 1st January 2006 which lifts all limitations for airlines both in the EU and Morocco enabling easy access.
Easyjet was the first airline to operate to Morocco under the new agreement when it started flights from London Gatwick to Marrakech in July 2006. Ryanair signed a five year agreement with the Moroccan government to develop low cost air access and tourism to most of the regional airports in Morocco from several locations across Europe. By the end of the five year period Ryanair will have developed up to twenty new routes, delivering almost 1 million passengers per year.
